January end of month progress

So as to try and get the year started off on the right foot here is my progress this month.  And wow I've gotten through quite a bit.  I did start in the last week of December

10 psykers, 10 arco flagellants, 10 acolytes with storm bolters, 10 acolytes with hellrifles, 12 crusaders, 10 death cult assassins, 4 servitors and a previously painted assassin.

Basic colours are on the chimeras just need shading and transfers adding.

The psykers.  Could have done with thicker rod for the staves but hey ho.  These will be chained together to an inquisitor acolyte once painted.  Why doesn't GW produce more open hands and straight arms?!

Servitor ready for duty.  Have ordered an imperial guard pilot for the front seat.

Landraider has a few finishing touches to go and transfers to add

I am going to try and do something more with the plain I as i'm not happy with how it is by itself.  Maybe paint a border around it.

I haven't forgotten about my Chaos boys.  Here is my death/Tzeench sorcerer onna horse.  Shading the Dheneb stone is hard, i'm still not 100% with it on the horse.  Suggestions?

I like the purple/stone contrast.  The only thing is he looks very clean when ranked in with the knights.  I don't want to wash him though as I don't think it would look right.  I wanted the oval to stand out more so i gave it a yellow ink wash

There must be about 30 layers of paint on this cloak and in the end I've left it as it is.  In the future i'm sticking to dark colours!

All i have left for the army now is the main man himself (who's on his way) with his personal retinue and i'll have a legal 1750 list.  There are some more things i'll add to in the future but not until this lot is painted up (lets see how long that lasts)

I'm keeping an open mind on targets again as I like just picking up what I feel like.  Also I should hopefully start getting supply work through once my paper work is complete so free time will go quickly especially as the monsoon season is also over (apparently).

May the Emporer protect/Nurgle give you really big ass boils... Till next time...

How to turn a ghoul into an arco flagellant

Hi
I wasn't about to pay £50+ for a unit of ten metal flagellants so i decided to make my own using the fantasy ghoul models.  So even though its taken a while here are 10 plastic flagellants!

I cleaned them up first taking off the spines and bones through their flesh etc and filed all the parts down smoothly.  I put the heads on next

To make the mask I balled up some green stuff roughly the size of the head

Then using a size 0 flat clay shaper wrapped the putty around the head.  The fact all the ghouls have long jaws is excellent as it pretty much gives the right shape for no effort!
By the way since I've started using clay shapers i have found it so much easier to "push putty" there are loads of clips on youtube showing techniques.  I always keep the shaper wet. I use medium firmness but occasionally thing firm would be good

I wanted to put the mark of the inquisition on them in a better way than a transfer to used one of the brass etched forge world symbols.  I glued it to a tool making sure it was supported all the way along so it didn't bend and then just pushed it into the still soft putty.

I wasn't to happy with this effect so tried a reversal.  I rolled some putty around another tool then rolled it over a symbol to make an impression.  MAKE SURE ITS WET or you will end up with the symbol in the roll.  leave this overnight so the masks and mold go hard

Put a really small ball of putty on the mask and roll the mold over it.  you may need to tidy up the edges carefully.  I found the best way was to use a really small tool while the clay is still soft.

Next up I sculpted on the back of the loincloth.  I figured the inquisitor wouldn't wanna be looking at a load of flabby flatulent (see what i did there) ass.  I put a roll of putty along the waist line and then pulled it down using a clay shaper.  (forgot to take pics of this part sorry)

I put the arms on with the hands still attached to try and get a natural swing of the arms so the model didn't look unnaturally awkward.  Though i did want them to look unwieldy.

I snipped the arms off then drilled in metal wire to sculpt the putty around.  Note i tried doing this part without the wire and it didn't work as the arms would sag out of place and look unnatural and wrong.

I then rolled putty around the arms and smoothed it over the wire. I had to file down some of them to make it properly smooth.  leave a bit of wire free at the end to attach the flail!

I didn't want the arms to look like tentacles, these are grafts after all so i put a small roll of putty at the tops of the arms to separate the flesh from the graft to make it clear where the flesh ends.  When i paint them up this will make it easier too.

The finished gang!  I need to get my hands on a load of purity seals to add to them but other than that i'm really happy with them.  Hope you like :)

Coming up next; Light saber wielding psykers!

Army progress

Ok it seems my adoring fans (well Dr A) have been missing me so i had best provide an update!

I've changed what I was going to do with one squad built for the Inquisitors and painting another of my chaos army.  I miss playing 40k so want to get my army built for that.  My Chaos boys can take a back seat for a while, I have 2000pts painted up of them so I can use that for now.

Storm raven gunship to take the fight to the enemy and capture objectives.  This is meant to be my lords personal transport so I wanted it to be suitably ornate hence all the extra decorations.  I will also be adding a lot of transfers to the ship trying to find some suitable images to print off once painted up.  I want my enemies in no doubt who is out to get them and fear his wrath!

Death cult assassins *10.  Based on the Wytch models I've removed most of the spikyness from them to try and give them their own look.  The plan is to green on masks like in the only two models GW have released for these models. These are really small and I cut myself at least 4 times doing them!  I also trimmed down the power swords a bit to make them less bulky and more elegant.

Crusaders *12.  I based these on Dark Angel bodies with Blood Angel heads and some empire knight arms.  The shields are Forgeworld and Grey Knight power swords. Sergeant has a different torso and hooded head.  I wanted them to not look like marines and without the shoulder pads and back pack I reckon they don't look to bad.

Servitors to provide some long range firepower though with BS3 and then scatter to account for (and my inevitable 1 for overheat rolls) I am not holding out much hope of any hits but 15pts for a plasma cannon ain't bad so hey ho.

Warrior Acolytes *10.  Obviously scout models but I've ordered a load of masked guard heads that should make them Different enough once painted up.  Got the inspiration for this idea from Big Dave.

A landradier to give much needed heavy fire and staying power to what is probably going to be a very brittle army.  Will also have more brass etched plaques on.

2 Chimeras to carry some troops around.  these will have the brass etched plates on but as i'm going to keep them gold i'll put them on after painting. i'm going to make up some different models to come out of the hatch to represent who's inside to remind me in  game as well as to look cool.

As I paint these I'll go through them in a bit more detail as they have been modded quite a lot.  Need to get my psycers finished (waiting for parts), the arco flagellants and another warrior acolyte unit up and running and then except for the main man himself and a few other models the army will be a go!

Stay vigilant and more importantly pure, because if not i'll be waiting...
