I'm done early!

Despite a weird month which started off me going door to door in stupid heat around Brisbane, getting injured, then ill, then taking a 38 hour trip to get home in a room back at my parents in the land of my fathers (mum never was sure) I finished my target already :-)

The flaggellants turned out ok after a bit of experimenting. I wanted the skin to look dead and un-nourished so used dehneb stone with a black wash then a dry brush of stone again.

The vehicles are done finally. The chimeras have their names on the scrolls and a few other bits added.

I tried a bit of freehand flames on the storm raven which if you don't look to closely looks quite cool i think. The imperial guard pilot was nicked from a sentinel and makes more sense than a marine one.

And I added transfers to the Landraider.  The transfer paper is a bit thick for my liking but in most lighting they look ok so I'll stick with them.

I put gold edging on the door decor to match the stormraven

I'll maybe get chance to do something more but once again i'm job hunting which in this part of the world means finding the nearest Weatherspoon then sitting outside it drinking Stella Artois abusing passers by from 9am in the morning and i'm already late so ttfn!

Black is back baby...

Well two surprising things this update.  First thing is that Australia is sunny right?  Well not when its bloody convenient and certainly not this last week!  I've been wanting to paint more in natural light and also get a chance to take some photos.

Second thing is that I got distracted... I found a penitent engine on ebay for a tenner so couldn't resist.  It was very badly painted with a lot of thick layers so took about 4 films to strip properly.  I used pine clean (no dettol here) and I think it would be great for less gunked models but for this I should have used something stronger.  Like a nuke or summat.

I remember reading about these when they first came out and i'm sure that somewhere was mentioned about them being made from brass.  Initially I tried black to tie in with my other vehicles but I didn't like it so I brassed over it and then picked out the details.  Its not the best paint job in the world.  I didn't manage to get all the old paint off so some details are a little obscured.  The reds look flat in the photos but I promise they are shaded

I miss my dremel as it took a good hour or so to remove the weapon from one of the arms with just a knife.  I needed to fit the auto cannons nicked from the chimera sprues.  I also had to snap an arm and leg then pin back in place to get the pose I wanted of it lurching forwards

And I finished the warrior acolytes who sadly are now dropped from the list to be replaced by the engine.  I really didn't want to especially after getting them finished but they just don't do a lot except get taken apart :(

Next post will have the long awaited vehicles and the flagellants who are coming along nicely

I've not managed a game this month due to work, injury and general laziness as it was a bit of a hike to get to the one club I was free for.  I'll finish off by showing you the letter from the Dr though I have blanked out which one to save embarrassment.  Kieron look away now...

March targets

Well working for a living certainly buggers up free time.  I resent having to do it but unfortunately i've yet to find someone to pay me to sit on my arse all day and i'm over qualified for a council or university job so hey ho.

Also the Queensland governments refusal to follow the rest of the worlds lead in having daylight savings means whilst I do get a lot of sunlight here its only in the bleeding mornings from 4am and you can sod off if i'm getting up to paint at that time.

I've painted a test model up for my hot shot lasgun acolytes.  I wanted them to be black, any colour as long as it's black as a famous dead dude once said.  I had to put in a few other colours too but I was very excited finding a metallic black to use for the carapace.  The red shoulder pad is to tie him in with the other units and vehicles.
I would like opinion though as to whether he is to black?

I'm pleased by his visor, layering a few washes got the gradient effect I wanted though the picture doesn't show it to well.

By the end of March I want to finish the flagellants, acolytes and the vehicles.  The vehicles are pretty much done but still need a few finishing touches
